With our busy lives and all the stresses of the day, it is good to regularly take time out to unwind. To clear our heads, to get ready for the week ahead or the next day to come.
I have a number of different ways to clear my head, from taking a hike to sitting quietly praying. However, there is one I enjoy but don’t get to do quite as much as I would like. Sitting on the porch sipping a nice bourbon and watching the world go by.
But, on hot summer days, there is nothing better than drinking this old family favorite, Whiskey Slush. This drink has been a part of our family for as long as I can remember. We make it as often as possible or as often as we have room in the freezer.
Give it a try – make a batch, open up some time, clear your head, and enjoy.
7 cups of water
2 cups of whiskey
2 cups of strong black tea (3-4 tea bags)
1 cup of sugar
1 can of frozen lemonade concentrate
1 can of frozen orange juice concentrate
Sprite, Squirt, or ginger ale
In a large pot boil 2 cups of water and steep tea for a couple of minutes.
Remove tea bags and dissolve sugar in the warm tea water, let cool a bit
Add remaining water, whiskey, lemonade, and orange juice and stir to combine
Transfer into a large freezer-safe container and freeze overnight
To serve, scoop out and fill a glass with the frozen whiskey slush. Top with Squirt and enjoy.
Sprite or ginger ale are both acceptable but the best is Squirt. Like me, you may not be able to find this so you have to do what you have too. Also, honey-sweetened whiskey is a great addition to the flavor if you have some.
How do you clear your head? What is your favorite summer day drink?
